Minutes of meeting 28th April 2008 at Driftway

 

Present: Josie Hill, Ted Kendrick, Eva Pinkava, Eve Setch, Sheila Taylor, Linda Thompson Val Walton, Mary Wiley

Welcome: Josie welcomed everyone and thanked Ted for hosting the meeting

Minutes of previous meeting----matters arising: It was agreed that our minutes of meetings should be put on the Village web site.(action Val)

Our telephone kiosk: --confirmed that it is in a conservation area

No news on Broomsticks ( see minutes of 11th Feb. )

Jillian Hedges has agreed permission for the History Group to use parts from the book West Hagbourne at Court of Star Chamber.----(-Sheila and Mary )

Treasurer’s Report: As Linda is unable to locate the book Mary will check to see if Edna has it. If the book is not found Linda will make new arrangements at the Bank.

Tree Planting: Eve has sent the register of Memorial Tree Planting for West Hagbourne to me and Steve Gore’s memorial tree will be added to it.

Members discussed the possible use of the Tyrell Trust Land for memorial trees. Val will email the Parish Council requesting that the planting of memorial trees is put on the agenda for the Annual Parish meeting on 24th May at Broomsticks.

Sale of Book: Mary has sold one book.

Josie will check if it is possible to have some of our books for sale at Blewbury Village hall on 7th June when there will be displays of  local village histories . Eve may be able to help.

Upkeep of Village Garden: There was concern about the poor state of the garden and it was proposed that Malcolm Brownsword plus volunteers should be asked to take it on. Mary will ask that this item is put on the agenda for the next Parish Council meeting 8th May which Mary and Sheila will attend.

Stone found in Moor Lane.: Sheila had emailed everyone with photo of the stone ( known as the growing stone as there used to be a pond there ).Ted circulated his photos of Moor Lane showing the position of the growing stone and Josie had brought information on Saracen stones in the locality. It seems that the Parish Council may be able to clear the area and do planting hence making it more attractive. Josie agreed to send an account to the newsletter describing her memories of the times that she played as a child at the growing stone in Moor Lane.

Village newsletter—Eleanor’s obituary: Eleanor was a founder member of the East and West Hagbourne Society, a member of our History group when she helped with fund raising for our book, involved with the Silver Jubilee film, and campaigned for the resurfacing of Moor Lane. Mary agreed to send this email for the Village newsletter and Parish Council

Annual Parish Meeting : on 24th May at Broomsticks at 3pm. Val will write the annual history group report. The replacement of the trough planter will be discussed at this meeting.

Projects : Josie brought album of Village Open Day1996--- labels to be typed.

Mary and Sheila---lists of maps

Mary---Newspaper cuttings and articles about village, Church magazines

Val-----Silver Jubilee celebrations ( completed as far as poss. ), photos of Village events

Ted and Sheila----house surveys----linking photos with records. Ted suggested including photos of roads as well.

Any other Business: Jillian Hedges has left Mary photocopies of old manuscripts relating to West Hagbourne.

Sheila will email Andrew Hutt re the last Chapel Survey to enquire if there have been any results following the Resistivity survey last year.
